How to stop your VW Polo being stolen
The Polo is taken in volume rather than for value — fast to move, easy to part out, and a ready market for every panel. The method is usually the diagnostic port, and it takes about as long as a phone call.
The short answer. Most Polos are stolen by programming a new key through the diagnostic port, which the factory immobiliser then accepts as genuine. carGuardian makes that key useless: the engine will not start without a PIN, an encrypted fob or your phone, none of which can be produced from the OBD port.

How are VW Polos stolen in South Africa?
Most commonly through the diagnostic port. A key programmer is plugged in and writes a brand-new key to factory specification, and the factory immobiliser accepts it because the key is factory-standard. On models with push-button start, relay attack is also used.
Which Polos are exposed to relay attack?
Only those with push-button start. A Polo with a blade key has no signal for a relay to amplify — but it is still fully exposed to OBD key programming, which is the method most often used against it.
Why do thieves target the Polo when it is not an expensive car?
Volume and turnover. It is one of the most common cars on South African roads, so parts move quickly and a stolen shell attracts little attention. Value per vehicle is low; throughput is high.
